Daft Punk (a.k.a. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo) is switching from robot helmets to
Tron helmets. Disney has enlisted the electronica duo to compose the score for the sequel to
the other Jeff Bridges movie that flopped during its initial release but turned into a cult phenomenon. I'm not a fan of the original film, but Daft Punk is perfect for this franchise. The score is going to be kickass.

You really think so?
ReplyDeleteI just expressed my disappointment with this choice on the FSM forums, but hearing your endorsement I may have to reevaluate. I certainly trust your opinion more than "The Mutant".
I saw your skeptical posts on the FSM Board. You appear to have changed your tune now, and I assume it's because you clicked on the Spike Jonze "Da Funk" video that I posted.
ReplyDeleteDaft Punk's Homework and Discovery albums are a couple of favorites of mine. I remember playing "Da Funk" and "Around the World" during a college radio show that I guest-hosted, shortly after Homework came out in 1997. Discovery, especially the Scarface-esque track "Veridis Quo," sounded so much like a great lost '80s syntho film score that I always wanted them to score a film, even though it's going to be the not-so-eagerly-anticipated TR2N or 2RON or Tron 2: Electronic Boogaloo or whatever the fluck it's going to be called. I'm surprised it took them this long to do a score (the Bangalter-scored Irréversible aside).

ReplyDeleteThat, and the YouTube link that "The Mutant" posted on FSM to DP's 2007 Alive concert.
Watching the concert, I was amazed at how much they were able to get the crowd going. I mean, they got those people pumped! I thought, "How can this be? These guys aren't even showing their faces, plus they're way up on some flashing, glowing pyramid!" Yet, that crowd was jumping.
After that, I went to iTunes and bought the Alive 2007 album.
I'm still a little embarrassed I raised such a stink in the first place!
